But I Don't Ride A Horse . . .
As the writer of this blog is actually not a rider, the writer can completely understand the hesitation in donating to a horse rescue or related charity. Certainly at this time of year, we will all be bombarded with calls for donations and Triple Dream Farm is certainly not the exception. Let us explain why we may be different and how 100% of your donation goes right to the rescues and programs:
The rescuing of equines is only part of our mission as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization *. Community outreach is the second part. Our objective to complete the second part is to make the community aware of our presence and what we can offer. As you may know, even if you are not a rider, horses are very intuitive to our emotions and needs. Something you may already know if you interact with horses anyway.
However, in a recent article from Psychology Today, March 2020, ** "Researchers put these abilities to the test in a recent study published in Animal Cognition. The work was led by Léa Lansade, a researcher in ethology at the Institut Français du Cheval et de l'Equitation (IFCE), and graduate student Miléna Trösch, and was carried out in the team Cognition, Ethology, Welfare of the INRAE." The conclusion was that:
"Together, the results suggest there is emotional contagion in horses, which is considered a building block of empathy."
In a previous blog post, we wrote about our visit to our local nursing home, in which we were well received by the residents in a very positive way. During our open farm events, we have reached out to other organizations as well as parents to bring local children and adults together with our equines - most who would not be exposed to interactions with equines.
As we grow, we will continue to do our best to bring our equines together with the community through rides, opens houses and other events, with an emphasis on reaching those suffering from PTSD, recovering from abuse or neglect, learning or physical disabilities, the elderly and children at-risk.
